Musings of a Space Cadet

7/24/08 12:03 pm - Decisions, decisions (more knitting)

So, I have started making a pair of Jaywalker socks.  The yarn is pretty, I have been liking the pattern, it looks great.  I don't have that much knitting time, but I had gotten through the heel turn on the first sock (I started them over the 4th of july...).  So, I decided I would try to slip it on my foot and see how it was going.  Oh dear.

It is very tight.  It is hard to pull on over my foot, and somewhat snug once on.  I put waste yarn through the stitches and wore it around for a little while last night, to see if it is comfortable enough.  I don't know.  If something happened and it shrank at all, it would be a problem.  I was considering continuing on the next size up needle, but I can't decide.  It is a lot of knitting time for me to rip it out, but it is so nice, I don't want it to be unwearable!  If I kept going I would probably fudge on the second sock and use the 1/2 size up needles.

So, do I rip it out?  If I do, do I knit a size up or go up a needle size?  I realize my gauge is a little bit off, maybe that is enough to be causing my issues.  The fabric is pretty dense, but it seemed nice and cushy that way so maybe the next size up is the way to go (although that means more knitting to get back to where I am)  I can't decide!  It is the whole sunk cost thing I think -- I probably really need to rip it out, I just hate to do it.

Oh well, not exactly a huge issue, but it is bothering me.  The other thing I'm working on is a market bag, maybe I should just concentrate on that for a little while.  No size issues there!

6/12/08 04:56 pm - Pick me up

So, I've been having a rough couple of weeks.  There's a lot going on at work, and there are family health issues ongoing, etcetera.  So, I've been a little stressed out.
Anyway, on Tuesday I finally got around to listening to the most recent episode of the podcast CraftLit (which is one of my favorites).  And, I was shocked to hear MY NAME announced as the winner of the May donation incentive.  And, since I had waited so long to listen (4 days-ish?) when I got home the yarn was there, and it is beautiful!  I can't wait to sit down and think about what to make with it.  It was just such a pick me up, when I really needed it.  I was amazed.  I'll post the yarn on ravelry when I get cracking with my camera (maybe later this month).

4/3/08 11:58 am - Complimented

So, today I was wearing the Clapotis that I knit.  When I ordered my coffee at starbucks, the cashier asked me if I had made it myself, complimented me on how even it looked, and asked how I made the "holes".

No big deal, but it made me smile.

3/26/08 03:33 pm - More knitting!

My office is freezing again, so I'm wearing the "Fetching" fingerless gloves I made :)

I've linked some pictures on Ravelry for some of my projects (I'm flute over there). So, I have now finished the vest for FiL, the socks for DH and I'm very excited about those two being done. The worst part of the vest was picking up the stitches for the neckband/button band. That takes me soooo long. I am fairly satisfied with how it came out, it is maybe a little more drapey than I meant for it to be, but just mildly. I hope he will actually wear it. The socks turned out great, I think. He wore them last Friday, I was excited :)

So, I have started on a pair of socks for my daughter. I am making them in the 2T-3T size in the pattern I am using, and they seem a bit big. I will go ahead and finish them and see, but I probably won't rush to start the second pair I have yarn for.

And, I am working on my daughter's sweater also. I need to finish it fast so she can wear it a bit, it is not as big as I thought it would turn out. So, I am hoping she will get some wear out of it this spring before it gets hot, there are no guarantees it will still fit in the fall. Which I shouldn't be surprised by, I suppose. The other two sweaters I have yarn to make for her, I am going to make in bigger sizes, like maybe 4T. I have finished knitting all the pieces, and started to do the finishing. I sewed the shoulder seams, and one of the sleeves on. I would have started on the second sleeve last night, but I couldn't find it. I was running all over the house, trying to figure out if my daughter had stuck it somewhere or what (she is very interested in it because she knows it is for her). I finally found it when we got into bed, between the sheet and quilt. I am sure my daughter stuck it there, she was sitting on my bed a lot yesterday morning :) So, I hope to get the other sleeve attached tonight, and maybe start on the rest of the seaming. I'm already trying to plan ahead when I can make it to the store to buy some cute buttons to go on it :)

3/5/08 04:20 pm - The promised knitting content

I've been pretty excited lately.  I finished my Dad's xmas gift (vest) which turned out well, I made a pair of "fetching" fingerless gloves while I was home with my sick daughter and had my Mom helping me out.  I am making good progress on DH's socks (I will be so glad when they are done) and on my FiLs xmas gift (another vest).  So then, I get to work on my daughter's sweater and start something new!

I think my Dad likes his vest, he wore it as soon as Mom took it home to him.  I hope so, I thought it turned out nicely.

DH made fun of me making the wristlets when I have so many other things going on, but they would have been so nice two weeks ago when it was freezing in my office.  Now it's not so cold, maybe next week :)

3/5/08 12:05 pm - Long Absence

I kind of fell off the face of the earth.  I stopped updating here, I didn't have time to read the message boards I used to read (eqwomen especially).  Once my daughter was somewhat mobile I couldn't spend time on the computer.  For a long time I couldn't clean up my junk email account, I had like 900 unread messages when I started going through it.

But I'm back in control a little bit.  Now I have different problems!  I started back to work, so I can take a few minutes while I eat lunch and update here.  I also sometimes get on the computer after my daughter goes to bed.  But now that I'm out of the house more, the housework is suffering.  Oh well, there's always something.

So, I'm setting up my blog to link to ravelry, I will be blogging a bit more about knitting :)
